Klaus Detlef Olof, born in 1939 in Oebisfelde, spent his childhood and youth in Lübeck and Hildesheim and studied Slavic languages in Hamburg and Sarajevo. He taught at the universities of Klagenfurt, Graz and Wien until 2005. He currently lives and works in Zagreb and Pula. Klaus Detlef Olof has translated many books from southern Slavic literatures (Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonain, Serbian and Slovenian). In 1991 he received the Austrian State prize for literary translators.
