Andy Jelčić

Andy Jelčić, born in 1958 in Ogulin, Croatia, is a freelance translator, writer, and publicist. After graduating in German and English Studies, he received his MA in Literary Theory. He has translated, among others, works by Ulrich Beck, Jürgen Habermas, W.G. Sebald, Heimito von Doderer, Christoph Ransmayr, Eva Menasse, Jenny Erpenbeck, F.S. Fitzgerald, William Shakespeare and other renowned authors. TRADUKI has supported several of his major translations, like Robert Musil, Elias Canetti, Manfred Rauchensteiner or Thomas Meyer’s biography of Hannah Arendt. Jelčić is the author of two novels, a collection of short stories and a book of essays. He is a member of two translators’ associations and the Croatian Writers’ Association. For TRADUKI, he has tutored translation workshops in Sarajevo, Cetate and Vienna. Jelčić has received multiple awards and fellowships, including Croatian National Prize for Literary Translation (2008), Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation (2018), and a series of yearly translation prizes from Austrian and Croatian Ministries of Culture (2014-2024).
