Jure Potokar

Jure Potokar, born in 1956, studied Slovene Language and Literature at Ljubljana University. He has published four volumes of poetry and translated almost one hundred books from the English and Croatian into the Slovene. Among his poetry and prose translations one can find works by Leonard Cohen, Niyi Osundara, Izet Sarajlić, Josip Osti, Alvin Pang, Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, J. M. Coetzee, Salman Rushdie, David Pynchon, Elif Shafak, Ali Smith, Don DeLillo, Orhan Pamuk, Jonathan Frenzen, Gore Vidal, Alan Hollinghurst, J. G. Ballard, Colm Toíbin, David Foster Wallace, Tim Winton, Janice Galloway, and Pico Iyer. As a great music lover and expert of popular music he also counts several autobiographies (by Ray Charles, Miles Davis, and Patti Smith) among his translations. In addition, Potokar has translated many nonfiction books by authors such as Tariq Ali, Richard Posner, Malcolm Bradbury, Noam Chomsky, Richard Sutherland, and Joža Horvat.
