At the focus of the novel are lesser known aspects of the severe and harsh Albanian reality during the communist regime, such as the topic of physical and psychological violence against women. The victims of this were mainly the so-called “beautiful women”. This novel puts the topic of rape centre stage and also questions the collective amnesia around it.
