In this book, Jože Pirjevec tries to untangle the different reasons that led to the disappearance of thousands of people in the aftermath of WWII and how modern Italian history is trying to reevaluate what happened. What is omitted in these new narratives is everything that occurred during the inter-war period. Exactly 100 years after the Slovenian cultural centre in Trieste was burned to the ground and the Italianization of the Slovenian and Croatian population in the Julian March, Istria and Dalmatia was kicked off by fascists, Pirjevec’s book is published in Croatian translation to reassess what happened.
