Vasilka Vancheva, born in Varna (Bulgaria), studied German Language and Literature at the University of Sofia (second language, English, and third language, Dutch). After completing her study and a residence in Nijenrode/Utrecht (The Netherlands) and Hasselt (Belgium) she firstly worked as a freelance translator and journalist. She was then an editor at the children’s book publisher “Otechestvo” and at the “Narodna kultura” publishing company. She was responsible for the German and Durch titles in both publishing companies. In 1992 she founded the private publishing company, “Emas”. Vasilka Vancheva has translated numerous stories from German and Dutch for the press and for anthologies, and also the children’s novel Kruistocht in spijkerbroek [Crusade in Jeans] by Thea Beckmann and the children’s book Schwanensee [Swan Lake] by Marko Simsa.
