Aleksandra Liven, born in 1971 in Sofia, studied Serbo-Croatian and Bulgarian Philology and Journalism at the St.Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia. She is currently working at the Foreign Language Service of the Bulgarian State Radio. She translates prose and dramas from Southern Slavic languages and Russian into Bulgarian and vice versa. Her translations have included works by Danilo Kiš, Miro Gavran, Ljubiša Georgijevski, Sanja Nikčević, Sašo Kokalanov, Vidosav Stevanovič, Pavle Ugrinov, Milorad Pavić, David Albahari and Ivan Ivanović. Plays she has translated by Danilo Kiš, Miro Gavran and Stanislav Minković have been performed at various theatres in Bulgaria and as radio drama.
