The Macedonian author Lila, the Albanian photographer Edlira and the Pakistani musician Joseph meet as scholarship holders of an Austrian cultural foundation in this foreign country. After initial misunderstandings, a close friendship develops between Lila and Edlira, and even a love affair between Edlira and Joseph. But Edlira has hepatitis. Shortly before the end of their time together in Vienna, she dies and Joseph decides to return to Pakistan. From different perspectives, the novel revolves around the question of foreignness and home and observes with refreshing (self-)irony the situations and entanglements of its protagonists in modern nomadism.
