Vlada Urošević remarked that his latest novel is primarily a meditation on childhood. The novel, divided into three main chapters, covers paradise and splendour as well as the inevitable end of this most magical and formative stage of one’s life. The novel is set in Skopje, a small, dusty hamlet, which, over the course of WWII, transforms itself into a semi-urban city. The title is a nod to the traditional home-made grape syrup of the region. At the end of the book, the author even shares his grandmother’s old magical recipe with the readers. A novel about loss and nostalgia, and childhood’s enduring fascination.
