Latica Bilopavlović Vuković

Latica Bilopavlović Vuković was born in 1976 in Nova Gradiška, Croatia. She obtained an studied German Language and Literature and French Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, and at the University of Mainz, Germany. In 2002, she started working as an audiovisual translator at the Croatian Radio and Television and as a licensed tourist guide in Zagreb. She also translates books from German and French and is a member of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association. She has received several scholarships allowing her to stay in translators’ houses in France, Germany and Switzerland from 2004 onwards. She has been employed at the Council of the European Union as a linguistic administrator since 2013. Most of her translations are of German contemporary literature, with notable authors she translated being Daniel Kehlmann, Juli Zeh, Julia Franck, Uwe Timm and Marica Bodrožić, amongst others.

She received the Austrian Federal Chancellery, Arts and Culture Division’s Outstanding Translation Award for her translation of Daniel Kehlmann’s novel Die Vermessung der Welt in 2012, and for her translation of Ulla Lenze’s Der Empfänger, for which she also received the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association award Josip Tabak for the best fiction translation in 2022.
