Albania in the Second World War: The country is invaded by fascist Italy, a shock for the Albanians. Relations between the countries had been friendly. Then in 1943, Italy sides with the Allies. Italian soldiers flee or join the Albanian partisans. The Albanians fight against the German occupying forces just as they had previously fought against the Italians. They help to hide and rescue Jews from the Germans. After the withdrawal of the Germans, the Albanians are in charge again. But internal battles soon turn the country into a dictatorship.
