In the middle of the golden years of the twenties, at the height of social euphoria and just before economic crisis hit, Robert Walser was writing his last novel, The Robber. These writings are not only a psychological map of their author, but also use a vulnerable individual to mirror the situation of an entire age, like Rilke’s Malte or Hesse’s Steppenwolf.
