Roman Kissiov, born in 1962 in Kazanlak, studied painting at the National Art Academy in Sofia. He is a lyricist, translator of poetry and an artist. His first volume of poetry Вратите на рая (title of the English translation: The Doors of Heaven) (1995) received the National Poetry Prize awarded by Hristo G. Danov State Publishing House. Other volumes of poetry followed. Roman Kissiov has translated contemporary poetry from Macedonian and Russian into Bulgarian. His translations include works by Nikola Madžirov, Mihail Rendzov, Mateja Matevski, Eftim Kletnikov, Radovan Pavlovski and Gordana Mihailova Bosnakoska.
