Radu-Mihai Alexe, born in Bucharest in 1975, grew up bilingual. He studied German at the University of Bucharest, where he worked as an assistant after graduating, followed by research fellowship in 1999 at the University of Bochum and 2000-2002 at the University of Vienna. He worked at the German Book Information Centre, then as a library assistant at the Goethe-Institut Bucharest. Since 2009, he has been working as a freelance literary translator. He has translated several books and texts from German, including Mephisto – Roman einer Karriere by Klaus Mann, Adler und Engel by Juli Zeh, Die Umarmung by Martin Gülich and Adam und Evelyn by Ingo Schulze. He has translated texts from Romanian by Nora Iuga, Nicoleta Esinencu, Liliana Corobca and Radu Aldulescu, among others. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Romanian Writers’ Union in Bucharest (translation department). He lives and works in Bucharest.
