Peter Flamm, born Erich Mosse in Berlin in 1891, began publishing articles and short stories in his uncle’s newspapers while studying medicine. In 1926, his debut novel Ich? caused a sensation when it was published by S. Fischer. In the following years, he wrote three more novels, while also pursuing his medical practice. That is until he, a Jew, had to flee and emigrate. He left Germany for Paris with his wife Marianne in 1933 and then went on to New York in 1934. There he set up his new practice. His most famous patient was the Nobel Prize winner for literature William Faulkner, and celebrities such as Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin were frequent guests at his house. He died in New York in 1963.
