Mira Đorđević
Dr. Mira Đorđević, born in 1939 in Zagreb, studied German und English Studies in Sarajevo. After a masters in Belgrad and a sojourn in Berlin and Freiburg she graduated at the University of Zagreb. From 1963 to 1974 she worked at the University of Sarajevo as assistant lecturer for German Literature. As of 1974 she taught there as a lecturer and as of 1978 as a professor. From 1993 to 1998 she worked at the German Literary Archive in Marbach. Upon her return to Sarajevo she founded the German Department again and continued lecturing from 2006 onward. Since then, she has devoted herself to literary translation. After earlier translations, for example of works by Walter Benjamin and Ernst Tugendhat, in 2014 her translations of Eugen Ruge In Zeiten des abnehmenden Lichts, and of Kirsten Boie Alhambra, while in 2015 Tauben fliegen auf by Melinda Nadj Abonji were published. Mira Đorđević is author of two scientific works, numerous essays and treatises. Since 2010, she is a member of the PEN Centre of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2004, she received the Austrian Decoration of Merit for Arts and Sciences.
