Milutin Cihlar Nehajev, born in Senj in 1880, was a Croatian writer, dramatist, translator and literary critic and one of the most important representatives of Croatian modernism. He studied in Vienna and later worked as a professor, editor and foreign correspondent in Trieste, Paris, Belgrade and Prague, among other places. In 1926 he was elected president of the Croatian Writers’ Union. His novel Bijeg [Flight] is considered the Croatian novel of modern times. Nehajev died in Zagreb in 1931.
