Miljenko Jergović, born in 1966 in Sarajevo, studied Philosophy and Sociology. In 1993 he left the beleaguered Sarajevo and since then has lived as a freelance writer in Zagreb. He published his first articles in the middle of the 1980s. In addition to journalistic texts Miljenko Jergović writes novels, essays, stories and poems. He became known internationally with the volume of short stories, Sarajevski Marlboro [Sarajevo Marlboro] (1994), for which he won international prizes. His work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
