Michael Köhlmeier

Michael Köhlmeier, born in 1949 in Hard on Lake Constance (Austria), studied German and politics in Marburg/Lahn, and philosophy and mathematics in Gießen. He lives and works as a freelance writer in Hohenems (Vorarlberg) and Vienna. He became known as a writer of radio plays and prose at the beginning of the 1970s and in 1974 he was awarded the Prize for Literature. His work includes several novels, various prose texts, plays, radio plays, screenplays and music texts. On ORF 2, he also presented the discussion programme Club 2. Michael Köhlmeier’s work has been translated into French, Greek, Korean, Romanian, Slovenian, Bosnian, Spanish and Turkish, amongst others, and has received many awards. In 2011, he received the Austrian Youth Literature Prize for Rosie und der Urgroßvater [Rosie and the Great-Grandfather].
