Maria Encheva, born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in 1982, is a translator and translates mainly from German and Dutch. What particularly fascinates her are the differences between the two languages and the challenges involved in rendering them into her own language, Bulgarian. In 2017, Encheva was awarded the Bulgarian Translators’ Association Prize for her work on the novel “Odessa Star” by Dutch writer Herman Koch.
