Lara Hölbling Matković was born in London, lived in the UK and Germany, studied English and German in Zagreb, and was a DAAD scholarship holder. She translates plays, fiction and non-fiction, as well as literary theory, popular science and children’s literature. She also works as an audiovisual translator. She wrote My First Croatian Dictionary: For Children and Adults (Moj prvi hrvatski rječnik: za djecu i odrasle) and received the Kiklop Award 2005 for the year’s best children’s book. She has received several accolades for her translations, including the Award of the Croatian Association of Literary Translators, and was named on the IBBY Honor List.

She has been a member of the Croatian Association of Literary Translators since 1997. From 2016 to 2020, she was a board member of the Croatian Association of Audiovisual Translators. She is a member of the Confederation of Literary Translators of Europe (CEATL) and an honorary member of the Association of Literary Translators of Serbia.
