Jana Unuk was born in Maribor in 1959. Her literary translations into Slovene include works by Bosnian (Dževad Karahasan, Ferida Duraković), Serbian (Filip David, Vidosav Stevanović), English-language (Virginia Woolf, Isaac Bashevis Singer) and numerous Polish authors (Szymborska, Miłosz, Herbertżewicz, Herbertzewicz, Wat, Hartwig, Kielar, Sonnenberg, Schulz, Tokarczuk, Bator, Tulli, Huelle, Stasiuk, Chwin, Karpowicz, Dehnel, Ostachowicz, Łoziński, Krall, Fink, Herling-Grudziński, Gombrowicz, Witkiewicz, Kołakowski and Demirski). In 2006, Jana Unuk was awarded the “Sovretova nagrada” Prize by the Slovenian Writers’ Association.
