Hanns Zischler, born in 1947 in Nürnberg, studied Philosophy, Ethnology, Musicology and German Language and Literature in Munich and Berlin. He has worked as an editor, translator and dramatic adviser. Alongside this he has written, and writes, radio plays, film reviews and literary essays. Since 1967 he has been an actor in numerous films. In 1996 his book Kafka geht ins Kino [Kafka goes to the cinema] was published, which has been translated into many languages. In 2009 he received the Heinrich Mann Prize, in 2010 he was awarded the German Audio Book Award.
