Hana Ćopić was born in 1978 in Belgrade. She studied German, was the recipient of the 1999/2000 DAAD award in Heidelberg and completed her post-graduate studies (Women’s studies) at the Faculty of Political Science. She has worked as a freelance translator from German to Serbian since 2003, with a focus on politics and philosophy. She has translated for several non-governmental organisations and media, including the journals RečPolja and Habitus, the newspaper Republika, the third programme of Radio Belgrade, Peščanik and the European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies. She has also translated Die Schlacht von Babel [The Battle of Babylon] by Boris Buden (2007), Die Ringe des Saturn [The Rings of Saturn] by W. G. Sebald (2005) and was one of the translators of the Knaurs Lexikon der Symbole [Lexicon of Symbols] (2004).
