Franz Kafka was born on 3 Juli 1883 as the son of Jewish parents in Prague. After completing law school with a doctorate in 1906, Kafka joined the Worker’s Accident Insurance Institute, where he worked as an official until early retirement in 1922. In the late summer of 1917, Franz Kafka suffered a haemorrhage, the beginnings of tuberculosis, of which he died on June 3 1924, not quite 41 years old.
