Anja (Marija Ana) Uršič was born in 1935 in Krško, Slovenia. She learnt German in the primary school in Rassach, Austria. She studied archaeology at the University of Ljubljana where she graduated in 1961. She worked in a library and a gallery in Krško, and later for the Slovenian Writers’ Association for 23 years. Anja Uršič translated several books and a number of short texts for literary magazines and radio shows from German to Slovenian, including works of Ingeborg Bachmann, Uwe Johnson, Christa Wolf, Erwin Ringel, Adolf Muschg, Erica Pedretti and Brigitte Kronauer.
