Paul Maar
Paul Maar, born in 1937 in Schweinfurt, lives in Bamberg. The former stage designer and art teacher is one of the most famous children’s writers. He has illustrated many of his books himself. Paul Maar has received an impressively large number of awards. In 1996 his complete works were honoured with the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize and in 2003 Paul Maar received the German Book Prize. Together with his wife Frau Nele Maar he translates children’s books from English. In addition to children’s books and books for young people and children’s plays he also writes screenplays for children’s programmes and on behalf of the Goethe Institute travels around the world promoting children’s literature. His books have been translated into many languages.
