Aleš Učakar

Aleš Učakar, born in Ljubljana in 1968, is an author, translator, and editor. He studied Comparative Literature and German Studies/Translation at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana. After completing his studies, he worked in journalism for several years. Since 1999, he has been an editor at the Modrijan publishing house in Ljubljana. His field of work includes fiction as well as non-fiction and specialist literature (the humanities and natural sciences). He translates mainly from German and English into the Slovene, both non-fiction (e.g. Ernst Cassirer, Joseph Ratzinger, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Ulrich Beck, Dietrich Schwanitz, Uta Ranke-Heinemann, Susan Cain and Giulia Enders) and fiction (e.g. Heinrich von Kleist, Gaston Leroux, Jeremias Gotthelf, Heinrich Böll, Henning Mankell, Arno Geiger, Ursula Poznanski, Timur Vermes, Robert Seethaler and Lukas Bärfuss).
