Jonas Lüscher was born in 1976 in Switzerland and grew up in Bern, where he trained to be a primary school teacher at the evangelical teacher’s seminar in Muristalden between 1994 and 1998. For a few years, he worked as a dramaturge and story developer in the German film industry and studied from 2005 to 2009 at the Hochschule für Philosophie in Munich. At the same time, he worked as a freelance editor for publishing houses. He finished his studies with a Masters’ degree in 2009. He then worked as a research associate for two years at the Institute of Technology–Theology–Natural Sciences at the LMU Munich and as a teacher in ethics at the Staatliche Wirtschaftsschule München/Pasing. For nine months during the academic year 2012/2013 he was a Visiting Researcher at the Comparative Literature Department at Stanford with a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Since 2001, Jonas Lüscher has been living in Munic. His first novella Frühling der Barbaren was nominated for the German and Swiss Book Prizes. Also in 2013, Lüscher received the Franz Hessel Prize, the literature prize of the city of Bern, and the Bavarian arts and literature prize.
