Gabriela Adameşteanu

Gabriela Adameşteanu, born in Târgu Ocna, Romania, in 1942, is, alongside Norman Manea and Mircea Cărtărescu, one of Romania’s most important literary voices of the 20th century. She studied Romanian language and literature at the University of Bucharest and has been active as a civil rights activist since the 1980s. She has been working as a journalist since 1990 and served as editor-in-chief of the Bucureştiul Cultural magazine until 2014. She was president of the Romanian PEN Centre and was named a Chevalier des Ordres des Arts et des Lettres in 2013. Her publications include several novels, including The Equal Way of Every Day (1975) and Wasted Morning (1983) and several volumes of short stories. For her work she has received numerous accolades and it has been translated into more than 15 languages. Adameşteanu lives and works in Bucharest
