The stories in Сите лица на смртта [All the Faces of Death] span the entire 20th centruy in Macedonia, from the Balkan Wars before WWI, to the Kingdom and then the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The stories offer much more than just a string of grotesque, sometimes supernatural, ways to die. Mostly, because to encounter death also means to face the absurdity of one’s own life. In his writing, Andreevski pairs deep sorrow about the end of life with sparkling, existential wit.
