Mitternachtsboogie [The Midnight Boogie], first published in 1987, became the cult book of an entire generation – Edo Popović’s first novel captured the lifestyle and attitude of youth towards the end of the Tito Era, in a way that nobody else could. Popović tells of long nights in Zagreb bars and cafés and of staying in West Germany, where students still dreamed of socialism, while those in Zagreb became more and more confident that it would die out soon. “A stunning text: jittering, throbbing, and trembling with poetry” (Literarischer Salon Hannover).
