In southern Carinthia in the 1920s, Anton decides to seek his fortune in faraway America. He manages to get a passage on a ship to Buenos Aires. Once he arrives in Argentina, he works hard to leave his past – his poor, rural Slovenian origins, the rise of National Socialism in Europe and his beloved but unsteady brother Josl – behind him. Kamnik, who arrives in South America by ship in 1945, also comes from southern Carinthia.
