Victor Klemperer’s notes from the time of Nazi terror have proven to be indispensable and incomparable contemporary documents. “Observe, note, study”, he fulfilled this constant demand on himself with his meticulous notes on the everyday life during the persecution of the Jews. He saw himself as a “cultural historian of the catastrophe” and furthermore became a chronicler of fates and family tragedies that would otherwise have been forgotten.
