The exchange of letters between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan, two of the most important German-speaking poets, is the moving evidence of two people, who loved one another and yet hurt each other, who needed each other and yet couldn’t live with each other. For almost twenty years they fight, in their letters, for the love and friendship of the other, silence prevails repeatedly, then the correspondence always starts up again – until it finally breaks off in 1961.
