Young Lastotschka is tough. Full of determination and stubborn as one can be, she has worked her way up from a bottle collector to become a head doctor. But her poverty-stricken childhood in Moldova in the eighties and nineties still haunts her. Why did she have to spend so many years in an orphanage? Why did her gruff foster mother Tamara take her in and make her collect bottles? And what happened to the women in her neighbourhood, without whom Lastochka would not be the person she is today?
