Druga preteklost

In “Die andere Vergangenheit” (The Other Past), Möderndorfer creates a fresco of the village of Dolina. Here the German Eichheins, wealthy forest and sawmill owners, have always held sway, but the Slovenian farmers and workers make up the majority of the population, and have elected the mayor, the influential innkeeper Novak. Against the backdrop of the 1920s, the Nazi era, communist rule and the fall of communism, haunting images of everyday life in Dolina emerge from past. Political conflicts, but also love and betrayal leave deep traces among the village’s inhabitants.
