Die undankbare Fremde
Publisher: Galiani Verlag
Searching for a better world, a young woman comes in 1968 to Switzerland, to a land of hard cheese, but she should not be too hard on Switzerland, she learns in the language course. Home is there where you can complain but here, she should be thankful. The new environment seems foreign and distanced to her. She rebels against the host country that forces her to accept the new rules and does not allow her to be herself. But she meets many other stranded people who hope to make something out of their lives: thieves, rascals, war refugees, people who are depressive, exploited, over-adapted, and naive. She learns to perceive exile and foreignness as wealth and becomes a bridge-builder among cultures.
