Michael Ende, born in 1929 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is one of the most well-known German writers. In addition to children’s books and books for young people he has written poetic texts for picture books, and books for adults, plays and poems. Many of his books have been filmed or revised for radio and television. He has received numerous German and international prizes for his literary work. His books have been translated into more than forty languages and have achieved a total print run of over 28 million copies. Michael Ende died in 1995 in Stuttgart.
