Marie-Janine Calic was born in 1962 in Berlin. After earning her PhD in Eastern European History from the LMU Munich in 1992, she worked until 2004 as an academic consultant for the Foundation for Science and Politics in Ebenhausen and Berlin. In 1995 she was the adviser of the UN envoy for the former Yugoslavia in Zagreb and between 1999 and 2002 she was the political adviser of the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe in Brussels. Since 2004 Calic has been professor for Eastern and South Eastern European History at the LMU Munich. Since 2006 she has been visiting professor at the College of Europe in Natolin and since 2010 visiting professor at the Bavarian School of Public Policy in Munich.
