Lutz van Dijk was born in 1955 in Berlin. He was a teacher in Hamburg and worked later at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Since 2001, he has been living in Capetown, South Africa, as a freelance writer and a co-founder of HOKISA, a foundation that helps children and young people with HIV/AIDS. His books have been translated to many languages and have received many international awards. In Germany and internationally, van Dijk is most famous for his great history books, such as the History of Jews and the History of Africa.
