Lisa Fittko was born in 1909 in Uzhorod, in what is today Ukraine. In 1933, she had to leave Germany due to her political activities. Once in exile, she and her husband Hans Fittko supported the resistance fight against Hitler. At the end of 1941 they escaped to Cuba and from there entered the USA in 1948. She died on 12th March 2005 in Chicago, having committed the rest of her life to the peace movement.
