Klaus Roth was born in 1939 in Hamburg. He was professor at the Institute of Folkloristics / European ethnology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and visiting professor at the Department of Anthropology, UC Berkeley. He received numerous awards for his scientific work. His research is focused on pop culture in Southeast Europe, intercultural communication, national identity and attitudes to immigrants, “Imagining Europe” in Southeast Europe, Socialist everyday culture in transition countries, and “Europeanization from below” in Southeast Europe.
