                                                                            Hans Joachim Schädlich was born in 1935 in Reichenbach in Vogtland. He studied German Language and Literature in Berlin and Leipzig and worked at the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin, before relocating to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1977. Hans Joachim Schädlich has received numerous awards for his work, including the Heinrich Böll Prize, the Hans Sahl Prize, the Kleist Prize, the Schiller Memorial Prize, the Lessing Prize, the Bremen Literature Prize and the Joseph Breitbach Prize.
