Hagen Schulze, born in 1943 in Tangiers (Morocco), is Professor at the Friedrich Meinecke Institute (Contemporary German and European History) of the Free University Berlin and is one of the most well-known German-speaking historians of the present. The focal points of his research are: Nation building and Nationalism in comparison with Europe, Reception History of political and cultural symbols and routes to World History. He runs the “German Memory Places” research project jointly with Prof. Dr. Étienne François.
