Gabriela Babnik, born in Göppingen in 1979, studied comparative literature and literary theory at the University of Ljubljana. After a stay in Nigeria, she obtained her Master’s degree with a thesis on the modern Nigerian novel. Since 2002, Gabriela Babnik has been writing regularly for the most important daily newspapers and weekly magazines in Slovenia. Her first novel Koža iz bombaža (2007) was awarded the award for the best debut novel by the Slovenian Publishers’ Association . Her second novel, V visoki travi (2009), was nominated for the Kresnik Prize 2010. For Sušna doba (2011) she received the European Union Prize for Literature in 2013.
