Frank Wedekind was born in 1864 in Hanover. He moved to Munich and established the magazine Simplicissimus. Wedekind who fought relentlessly against the bourgeois pseudo-morality wrote in 1891 the socially critical play Frühlings Erwachen (performed in England as Spring Awakening). Having been criticized by his contemporaries as too promiscuous, it is now considered as one of the greatest masterpieces of the German theatre. The writer Frank Wedekind died in 1918 in Munich.
