Elfriede Jelinek, born in 1946 in Mürzzuschlag in Styria and raised in Vienna, studied theatre studies, art history and music. Her publications include poems, plays and novels, including Die Klavierspielerin and Lust. Jelinek has received numerous accolades for her work, including the Georg Büchner Prize and the Franz Kafka Prize for Literature. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2004.
