Damir Ovčina, born 1973 in Sarajevo, studied Literature Studies. He is the director of a school for blind and partially blind children and publishes on his website  impruva.ba. His first novel, published twenty years after his first attempts at writing saw the light, became a literary sensation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kad sam bio hodža (Zwei Jahre Nacht, Rowohlt 2019) won the Hasan Kaimija Award 2016 for best prose publication of the country as well as the Mirko Kovač Prize, one of the most prestigious literature prizes in the South Slavic world.
