Basil Schader was born in 1951 in Zurich. After studying German studies and European ethnology/folklore, he worked at the Zurich University of Teacher Education in his area of expertise, and gradually came into increasingly close contact with the Albanian language, culture and migration. In 2005, he received a second doctorate at Tirana University with a focus on the Albanian language and literature. His larger translated works include a reading drama by Mahir Mustafa, a novel by Helena Kadare, and the enchanting boyhood memoirs of the Kosovan author Arif Demolli.
